Fresh herbs like basil, cilantro, and parsley bring wonderful aroma and flavor to our meals,
but they often wilt too fast in the fridge.
Learning the right way to store them can make a big difference.
Here are some smart and easy tips to extend the life of your herbs.
✅ 1. Know the herb type
There are two kinds of herbs:
- Soft herbs like basil, cilantro, parsley
- Hard herbs like rosemary, thyme, sage
Each type needs different storage.
✅ 2. For soft herbs: Use the jar method
- Trim the ends
- Place them in a glass jar with a little water
- Cover loosely with a plastic bag
- Keep them in the fridge (except basil – store at room temp!)
Change the water every 2–3 days.
✅ 3. For hard herbs: Use the paper towel wrap
- Gently wrap them in a damp paper towel
- Place in a zip-lock bag or airtight container
- Store in the fridge
✅ 4. Freeze if needed
If you can’t use them within a week, chop and freeze herbs using an ice cube tray with olive oil.
This is perfect for cooking later.
✅ 5. Keep them visible
Don’t push them to the back of the fridge.
Keeping them in sight helps you use them before they spoil.
💡 Smart Tip: Label your herbs with date of purchase.
It’s simple, but helps reduce waste.
